My brother passed away in Sept. 2010. I do not live in Michigan and so my family chose the funeral home. My sister kept calling me before I arrived in Michigan to tell me that the owner/operator was rude and kept putting her off by telling her how busy he was and that he does 4 funerals a day. Ummmmmmm....that's his job! If he is so understaffed and overwhelmed that he is rude to grieving families...then maybe he should slow down or hire some staff to help! Then, my parents went to meet with a woman from Lauer's (Tonya) and she was laughing and abrupt while my parents were trying to pick out a headstone. That was upsetting to my mother, father and my son. How rude...can't muster up some sympathy for grieving parents and family that are burying the second child in 5 years?? Oh but it gets better...On the day of the visitation, we were alotted 30 minutes for "private family time" with our lost family member. The director left the door open and people started wandering in early...very early Like 10 minutes after we arrived. As the family was standing there balling our eyes out, people we didn't know were coming in and it was really...lets say rude. When we spoke up about it,the "person" from the funeral home standing there just looked at us and said "have ya had enough time?" My mom, quite taken with emotion said "ok"....My sister was also like"what do we do? ask them to leave?" Not to mention the fact that my brother had WAY too much makeup on and his clothing was put on incorrectly. He looked like a drag queen! Which he wasn't. Then the day of the funeral, my mother wanted to get there early to spend time with my brother ALONE. They hadn't even cleaned the area from the night before. Trash was still in trash cans with no liner...dirty tissues on the couch that I had to throw away. Very unprofessional. But the topper was when we walk in we told them we wanted alone time...they were rude and followed us in there and started having general conversations and I finally told the woman we never got our "private family time" She obviously went to MR.LAUER! As I was coming in from the outdoors, he grabbed my arm and said into my ear..."for your information...your mother and sister said it was ok to let people in." What a JERK!!! No they didn't...I was there you fool! They were too busy greiving to do your job you ninny!!
All and all...My sister's funeral was way better because the J Kevin Tidd funeral home in Albion Mi. handled everything...and did it with a smile and were professional...Unlike Lauer's funeral home. Lauer's were unprofessional and rude. They have no sympathy for grieving people at all. It was apparent to all who were close to the family that this experience was the icing on the cake that was my brother's funeral! I suggest using a different funeral home if you really want to do justice for the person that died. If not you're bound to have a terrible experience like we did. And MR.LAUER...I will be damned and go to hell if ANY of my family uses your services again...including my Dad. There are far better funeral homes in Jackson Michigan. Lauer gets an AWFUL rating from me and my family.
By the way, we are pretty sure he gave out personal information to the newspaper who had my sisters home phone and my mother address. Because they showed up at my mother's home while she was getting ready for bed the night before the funeral and wanted to do an article. This after they left a message on my sisters answering machine about it.My sister's number is unlisted and my mother just purchased her home in Jackson not long ago. Who else would have done that?? How unbelievably unprofessional and unethical. It's Sickening how this business devalues human grieving, yet they seem to put quite the emphasis on how hard they work. I think their priorities are a little wacked.AND FYI MR.LAUER...The Bering Sea is spelled B-E-R-I-N-G...not Bearing Sea.. You should have researched that before putting it in the newspaper Obituary.Added July 10, 2017 by A Google User
